Ester-C Supreme is a specially processed form of calcium ascorbate, which is less likely to cause gastric discomfort. In a study, 50 volunteers received 1000 mg per day of either Ester-C or ascorbic acid for three days, and then switched for three days. Thirty percent fewer gastric symptoms occurred when participants took Ester-C.
Ascorbic acid passes out of the body quickly in urine, so little of it is absorbed. One study showed that 24 hours after supplementation with Ester-C, the white blood cells of subjects who had taken Ester-C had absorbed more Vitamin C than those of subjects who had taken regular ascorbic acid. Another study showed that calcium ascorbate is better absorbed than another form of Vitamin C called calcium acetate.
Polysaccharides:
Polysaccharides are long sugar molecules that strengthen the immune response. One of the most significant polysaccharides is arabinogalactin. Many plants are rich sources of arabinogalactins; the larch tree, from which the arabinogalactins in Ester-C Supreme are extracted, is particularly so.
Quercetin:
Bioflavonoids are potent antioxidants found in plants, which enhance the immune-supporting functions of Vitamin C. Studies suggest that quercetin, one of the most potent bioflavonoids, inhibits the manufacture and release of histamine and other allergic and inflammatory agents, thus calming allergic reactions.
Multi-anthocyanidins:
Anthocyanidins are a potent group of bioflavonoids. The anthocyanidins in Ester-C® Supreme are derived from bilberry, cranberry, and black currant, each serving a slightly different role in the body and working synergistically to boost health.
Recommended Use: Take 1 or 2 capsules daily
Contraindications: Vitamin C can cause false positives in urine when testing for glucose. Not indicated for those with hemachromatosis or other conditions of iron excess. Not indicated for those taking Warfarin. Not indicated for individuals with a tendency to form kidney stones or with kidney disease.
